This is a painting entitled "Breakfast" I did a while back. The piece was done using the mixed media process I had developed in my college days. I met a very lovely couple from Ireland who were kind enough to purchase the piece from me. The woman told me that they were going to put the painting over their small two person table in their kitchen where they ate breakfast together everyday.

If you look a little bit, you will notice that I drew a set of curved teeth where the neck is now represented and drawn over. That was my initial reaction relating to composition, but decided those proportions were too predictable so I drew a pair of lips and a nose. From there I decided the dude just plain old needed a mask. So I put one on him. I later modified this piece digitally for a coloring book project with Super Dudes Justin Gray and Peter Wonsowski. I miss those two guys a lot.

Piece for a friend...

Just finished this piece last night for a friend of mine. I did another piece a couple of years ago that is up in my house (same process) that this friend wanted. I did not want to part with it for sentimental reasons so I used the same process and look to create this one. 14.25" x 7.5" scratched plywood with spray paint and acrylic.

It is temporarily on hold for another project right now, but it will be the first thing I get back into when I am done with my current work. You should see this thing full size.

A month since the last post??? Sorry guys and gals, but I have been hard at work on some freelance, personal and commissioned work on top of my full time job. I recently did a series of 3 illustrations and 10 designs for the surf clothing company Ergophobia to be used on 3 shirts as part of their Artist Series. Technology scares me a little bit.

Sketch for the digital painting, "The Seeker".

Sketch for The Academy of Art University's 3-D animation desktop image. This is the image (modified in the final) that the poor students had to see as soon as they turned on their computer...for a whole semester. The final included lots of delicious pustules taking over the mutant cyborg slug's surface. Juicy.

I did this drawing for a group of students at AAU who were doing a collaborative video game project. They needed a character that would fit into a western steam punk environment for a FPS they were creating. (FPS is short for first person shooter for all you non gamer folks out there). They were quite happy with the design.

Hadn't picked up my colored inks and brushes for a while. Decided to paint this happy floating dude. But where is he floating off to? I still haven't decided.

So I have gotten some comments on the above piece and most want to know if I wrote the story to go along with the image. I cannot take credit for it. Here's what happened...I was at a friends house in Oakland eating some home made fried chicken, sweet potato pie, playing video games, drinking beers etc. I broke out the sketchbook halfway through the day and cranked this drawing out. My friend's friend was there and was interested in the drawing and I handed it over to her and asked her to write a story for it. She happily jumped in and left me (us) the story you see above. I was pleasantly surprised. I hope you enjoy our little spontaneous colab.

I'm pretty sure he will be in a painting at some point...

"My Son Will Show You The Way"

This piece was painted for a large group show at the San Jose Museum of Art entitled "We Are Family". http://www.sjmusart.org/content/exhibitions/past/exhibition_info.phtml?itemID=308

The inspiration for the piece came from a horror flick entitled "The Hills Have Eyes" that I accidentally watched one night. It contained a rather bizarre desert mutant rape scene in a mobile home. Romantic, I know.

It is acrylic on a 22"x28" stretched canvas. It was originally custom framed by my good buddy Nathan Segovia, a bay area creative type who was kind enough to put some energy into the project.

That bird turned out to be the largest half of a dragon fly I had ever seen. He was stuck in the grille of our Ford F150. We placed him on the hood of the car to check him out and jumped back when he started undulating, seemingly trying to move his phantom abdomen.

They like to shoot at stuff in Arizona.

It's always super comforting when you pull off the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Arizona to find an unofficial shooting range 15 feet from the highway. This fine collection of various caliber shells and bullets took about 45 seconds to compile.
