"24 K" Boombot

Here is my customized Boombot, "24K" for this weekend's CRAYnial DIY (Boombotix) show at Big Umbrella StudiosSome artists went off and sculpted the heck out of theirs. I went for simple and elegant / gaudy solution based on the target market of bike messengers, hip hop / Dubstep kids, J-Pop fans, and hipsters. Most of those folks tend to like it flashy. The piece is still available at Big Umbrella Studios.

Sneak peak from Triangulum.

My lady sometimes snaps photos of me when I am working. Here is the artsy fartsy we were up to the other night which includes a sneak peek of my latest piece for the Modern Eden show opening Saturday. Amanda is working on some new line art that will be transferred to linoleum blocks to carve for the new upcoming block printing class she'll be teaching at Workshop. Check it all out!

Christmas Ink

Sorry for the crumby lighting everyone but I shot this at a family members house under a low watt incandescent bulb right after I painted it. My sisters cat watched me work and seemed to approve. I made it on the desk that I used to practice drawing on as a child.

To the left of my desk.

All the images in the picture are my woks with the exception of the brown toned oil painting in the top left corner which is a gnarly piece by my friend/fantastic painter, Michael Ryan. Check his stuff out. http://www.michaelryanart.com/

Sketchbook.

My desk on Thanksgiving.

I promptly grabbed the lit candle in the background and tilted it to myself to light it thinking it was unlit, only to spill wax across my latest work. I think it adds a little something nice to the piece however.

Breakfast.

This is a painting entitled "Breakfast" I did a while back. The piece was done using the mixed media process I had developed in my college days. I met a very lovely couple from Ireland who were kind enough to purchase the piece from me. The woman told me that they were going to put the painting over their small two person table in their kitchen where they ate breakfast together everyday.

-12" x 12" deep body stretcher bar, canvas, mixed media, (2005)

Recognize this guy?

If you look a little bit, you will notice that I drew a set of curved teeth where the neck is now represented and drawn over. That was my initial reaction relating to composition, but decided those proportions were too predictable so I drew a pair of lips and a nose. From there I decided the dude just plain old needed a mask. So I put one on him. I later modified this piece digitally for a coloring book project with Super Dudes Justin Gray and Peter Wonsowski. I miss those two guys a lot.

Piece for a friend...

Just finished this piece last night for a friend of mine. I did another piece a couple of years ago that is up in my house (same process) that this friend wanted. I did not want to part with it for sentimental reasons so I used the same process and look to create this one. 14.25" x 7.5" scratched plywood with spray paint and acrylic.

Ergophobia

A month since the last post??? Sorry guys and gals, but I have been hard at work on some freelance, personal and commissioned work on top of my full time job. I recently did a series of 3 illustrations and 10 designs for the surf clothing company Ergophobia to be used on 3 shirts as part of their Artist Series. The release date for the shirts is not yet set, but here is a link to Ergophobia so you can see the sort of work they do.
